4-Week Savings Spree Challenge

Week 2: Fun with Less Funds

Be sure to connect with the Plan on one of its social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or YouTube) to follow the "Savings Spree Tips" associated with this topic. By doing so, you'll be entered in a random prize drawing for restaurant gift cards or one of the Plan's Goal-Specific Financial Plans (a $175 value). And remember, the 4-Week Savings Spree Challenge is an interactive event. Let us know how you're putting the tips to work, or, better yet, share your very own savings stories with the group. Sharing your success stories will get you a free "Savings Spree" T-shirt. Be sure to use the Challenge hashtags #MOSavingsSpree or #MO4WSS when posting.

Tip #5: Attend FREE Community Events & Visit State Parks

So you want to see Missouri, but you're on a budget? Don't worry. There are tons of fun inexpensive things to do right in your backyard such as attending free community events and visiting state parks! Check with your community's chamber of commerce websites for free events and entertainment held throughout the year.

Tip #6: Take Adanvantage of Government Savings Programs & Discounts

There are a number of savings programs and discount rates available to government employees. For instance, the WeSave Employee Discount program offers great deals on travel packages, theme park and movie tickets, and much more. Also, don’t forget that mobile phone carriers like AT&T offer a promotional discount to state of Missouri employees. And if staying fit is your recipe for fun, check your local gym’s membership deals – many offer special discounts to state employees.

Tip #7: Purchase Discounted Tickets to Sporting Events & Theme Parks

Ball games, vacations and various weekend getaways can take a toll on your pocketbook during the summer. Fortunately, many businesses offer discounted ticket prices for state employees. For example, the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals have appreciation days for state employees and their families. Six Flags, Silver Dollar City and Worlds of Fun also offer cheaper admission for government workers. Be sure to check out these special offers and more during Missouri State Employee Recognition Week.
