Look to the Future

Long-term investing is a deliberately vague description. It can mean a financial goal beyond five years, like buying a home, sending the kids to college, or starting your own business. Or it can mean investing for a goal 10, 20, even 30 years in the future, such as your retirement.

The main long-term focus at this site is retirement. Your long-term strategy not only has to work up to the day you retire, it probably also needs to continue generating growth and income throughout your retirement. So, if you've got 30 years before you retire, and you live another 30 years after you retire, you're looking at creating and maintaining a 60-year investment strategy! And if you want to leave anything behind for your heirs, it's even more than 60 years. Now that's long-term.
